This post is long overdue, I feel a little guilty that I'm just barely getting to it!!
Back on January 10th 2013 Russ' Grandma, Ruth Rogers Charlton, passed away at the age of 90. She was able to spend her entire life at home and passed away peacefully there.
Russ grew up his entire childhood living right next door to his Grandparents. He has a very close relationship with his Grandma. Cody, Wyatt and I were also able to spend a lot of time with her. It was always so fun having her right next to Russ' parents because it allowed us to visit so frequently, not just with her but with Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins too. The kids loved going over and getting a tootsie roll, and playing with toys. It is definitely different not having her there anymore.
Ruth lived and amazing life. She lived her entire adult life in a home that was once a chicken coupe converted to a home. It started out fairly unfurnished and quite small, but after many years and much work, they turned it into the home she was able to live out her life in.
After she had her third child her husband went to fight in WWII. After a while she received notice that the ship her husband was on had been attacked and had gone missing. It was likely that he had not survived. Luckily, after months, the ship was found and Harold was alive. He had to spend a little time in the hospital due to a head injury, but was soon able to return home. I cannot imagine the strength it would take to go through an experience like that.
Ruth and Harold had 8 children and worked hard at raising them.
After Russ' grandpa passed away, Ruth spend many years alone until she got remarried to
Paul Charlton. They were able to spend some great years together until Paul passed away a few months after we had Cody. Cody was very young and there is not way he would be able to remember Paul, but talks about him a lot as though the two of them have a continuing personal relationship. He said that he remembers Grandpa Paul. He tells me that he dreams about Grandpa Paul and that he talks to him all of the time. He always tells me how much he loves Grandpa Paul. I am so glad to know that my little boy has these visits from his guardian angel.
Grandma Rogers had a memory like a steel trap!! She could repeat the same story word for word with no variations. She was always very concerned for her children, grandchildren, and great children. She did an amazing job of keeping up with birthdays, weddings, and any other important events.
We sure do miss our visits with Grandma, but we know that she is in a better place with family and a loving Heavenly Father.
